I work on the half of the product nobody sees.
Schemas, API boundaries, background jobs, and the unglamorous infrastructure decisions that determine whether a thing still works at 3am. That's most of my job, and I genuinely like it.
I got here the slow way, building things that broke and then having to work out why. That's also how I ended up mentoring: the moment a deploy stops being scary for someone is a good moment to be present for.
These days I split my time between backend work at a startup and a handful of products I run myself, which is the best way I've found to keep learning things I wouldn't otherwise pick.

I write backends first and interfaces second, and I think it shows in the interfaces.

I default to boring technology. Postgres and a single server solve more than they get credit for.

Most of what I know about production came from breaking it at 2am and having to fix it.

I teach because explaining something is how I find out whether I actually understood it.
